Music Curriculum Statement

“Music is a great blessing. It has the power to elevate and liberate us. It sets people free to dream. It can unite us to sing with one voice. Such is the value of music”.  Nelson Mandela

The Music Curriculum at Bowling Green Academy follows the ‘Kapow’ scheme of work which has been designed in accordance with The Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum and The National Curriculum.

From the Early Years, children are encouraged to develop a positive attitude to music. They have the opportunity to listen carefully to and evaluate music from a wide variety of musical periods, styles and genres, performing with their voices and instruments, developing musical skills such as improvisation and composition and learning about the inter-related dimensions of music (e.g. pitch, tempo and structure).

Our music curriculum engages and inspires pupils to develop a love of music and their talent as musicians, and so increase their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement. In this way, we will ensure that we help to nurture confident, independent, resilient musicians.
