Curriculum Marketplace

Wow, what an event the curriculum marketplace was! The Curriculum here at Bowling Green has very much been a labour of love, continual improvement and commitment by all stakeholders through its time of evolution, implementation and continual improvement. It has been praised by external Trust reviewers on numerous occasions, one described ‘enthralled pupils’ and a ‘real buzz’ being evident in children’s ‘exciting’ learning. In June 2023, we had the opportunity to showcase the curriculum to Ofsted, who again were nothing but positive “Bowling Green has an ambitious curriculum for all children.” “Pupils throughout school continue to improve their knowledge and can talk about what they know using expert vocabulary.”

As you will be aware, we present our curriculum to Parents/Carers through our curriculum maps on Seesaw. However, we decided it was about time we brought these to life. So, in February we held our very first Curriculum Marketplace Event.

Each member of teaching staff at Bowling Green is responsible for a curriculum subject/subjects. At the event, we showcased our long term plans which detail what children will learn from Reception to Year 6, progression documents which show that knowledge and skills are well thought out and progressive across a child’s time at Bowling Green. Key     vocabulary was also shared which again, is progressive and is built upon year on year. We showcased some examples of work you would expect to see in our subjects and things that you can do at home to support us at school. Finally, we explained how our Primary School curriculum leads expertly into Secondary school curriculums and further to this some careers which children may go into.

Here at Bowling Green we teach our children to be confident, proud and to take compliments graciously however, the adults at Bowling Green are perhaps more humble and not great compliment takers. But we were absolutely blown away and left some what speechless by the support we received on Monday, over 70 children had a family member attend. The praise and compliments from external agencies are always lovely to hear but the icing on the cake for us has to be the comments we received from you all; “Great stalls showing all the subjects nice having pupils showing everyone around…nice to see all the different things covered in all the classes.” “Great opportunity to see class teachers, next year subjects and the all important school trips.” “Informative look at the work the children do.” “Very informative, good to learn about what all year groups are studying. The Year 6 kids welcome was good. Good opportunity to discuss progress with the curriculum leads/class teachers.” A massive massive thank you for the continued support you show us. Team BG really is a magical team to be a part of. This isn’t the book closed on our curriculums and we will continue to adapt, change and improve based on the needs of our children and the most up to date research.
